Summary
N8757Q (De-registered)
The aircraft, s/nU20603510, was damaged in a crash in Guyana in 2011. It was originally registered as N8757Q but was moved to unregistered status when it was Exported to Guyana on 10/5/2010. Compass Aviation (Shelby, NC) shipped the project to their base in NC and completed the below work:
- Fuselage Repairs
- New Side and Rear Windows (Windshield still in box)
- New control cables (rudder, aileron, flaps, rudder trim, elevator trim, parking brake)
- All new Fuselage wiring
- New Fuselage SCAT ducting
- Rebuilt cabin heat valve
- Installed Stabilizer attach bulkhead Service kit SK-210-125
- Replaced eyelet lift rings on fuselage (part of the float plane option)
- Overhauled header tanks
- Overhauled fuel selector
- Rudder pedals overhauled by McFarlane Aviation
- Rebuilt MLG box
- Installed heavy duty bush wheels
- NDT’d both gear legs, replaced L/H gear leg due to corrosion under the step
- Added windshield V-Brace. The 4 lift rings are installed on top of the fuselage
- Rebuilt shimmy damper
- Rebuilt battery box
- Rebuilt elevator trim (wheel/indicator/bushings/etc)
- New cargo door hinges
At this point, we purchased the project from Compass Aviation in July 2022. Our volunteers concentrated on the engine and the wings. Prop was unrepairable.
The engine has 300 hrs SMOH, Because it had a prop strike, we removed the baffeling, disassembled the engine and had the crankcase and crankshaft sent out for inspection. The crankcase was sent to DIVCO. They repaired the crankcase and sleeved the lifter and governor bores and repaired #1 main bearing. The crankshaft was found to be cracked and unserviceable and is not included.. The cylinders appear to be serviceable.
Both wings were damaged. Our volunteers stripped the right wing, disassembled it, made repairs, etched & alodined (inside & out), Zinc Chromated the interior, drilled and cleco’ed it together. Our plan was to install flint long-range tanks (which we never purchased) before completing the assembly, but that was when we stopped work. The Left Wing was not touched.
The Horizontal stab leading edge and some other skins were replaced, drilled and cleco’ed. It is not completed. The vertical fin appears to be fine.
